We run ourselves into the ground don't we? There is always something that needs us, work, kids, pets, upkeep, tasks, dreaming...
Wait, dreaming? Yup, I said it, dreaming. Society has gotten us to this nonstop pace of pushing, growing, growing, growing. We're exhausted.
I'm exhausted, I'm sure your exhausted too. Always having to figure everything out and keep up. Keep up with whom or what? I don't know, just keep up. I just know it's exhausting and I bet you connect with my heart here.
Jesus said in Matthew something that I love and I want to dive into:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
RE-freshing. That's so good let's re-read it again and let it wash over us.
We ARE weary and burdened. We CRAVE gentle, humble, easy, rest for our souls. That's who Jesus is, He's telling us right here in black and white!
How do we know His heart? Well, if we work off of His words here, He's gentle and humble in heart, maybe we meet Him there. Maybe we don't over complicate this with a bunch of rules and we come to Him gentle and humble in heart. He's telling us His yoke is light, pause.
Let me tell you what a yoke is. A yoke is that thing farmers put around the neck and shoulders of ox in the fields to guide their direction. It looks big and heavy and it's a burden.
Jesus is telling us His yoke, burden, guidance is light. Light as in gentle, refreshing, SIMPLE. Jesus wants his guidance to be siiiiiiimple.
We forget in our quest of faith, simple. It's anything but isn't it? It's ok to admit that, He's into truth remember. We crave simple. We need simple. The old testament was about laws and rules and it was too much for humanity, Jesus came to break that and this scripture in Matthew does a beautiful job showing us more of His heart.
Stop the world around you, take a big deep breath and exhale, and if you crave Jesus, think in your heart and mind...
Yes, I want your humble, gentle, spirit, Jesus. Help me find You, I need rest for my soul and You are the Way.
He is called the Way Maker after all, just sayin'. Keep it simple.
